The Fifty Ninth playing of the DALKEITH CUP, a mixed four ball combined stableford event, took place on a beautiful Spring Day on Sunday September 29 with a disappointing field of 17 pairs setting out on their quest to become the Mixed Four Ball Champions. Krystyna Knottnerus and Tony Cowan once again sponsored this year’s event and whilst it was a small field it certainly contained class. Perhaps it was a case of a Grand Final hangover that caused the low entries.
The event was named after our neighbouring suburb of Dalkeith.
“The suburb of Dalkeith derives its name from an estate of 320 acres taken up in 1831 by Adam Armstrong. He named it Dalkeith Farm after the district near Edinburgh from which he had migrated in 1829”.
There were no past winning combinations in the field this year but there were a number of past winning individuals in the field – Grace and Gavin Furness who won in 2007 but for some reason weren’t paired together this year and Honor Metcalf and Don O’Brien (2014), Cath Bellemore (2009), Patricia Noske (2013), Joe Alexander (2018 and 2019) and John Mitchell (2023)
The Leader Board after 15 holes looked something like this-;

59 points Yolande Caruso (29) and Vince Caruso (24)
56 points Joan Brown (22) and Joe Alexander (14), Helen Walsh (31) and Bevan Lawrence (15)
55 points Patricia Noske (20) and Tim Tan (6)
So, it looked as though Susie Rich and Gavin Furness had it in the bag but as we all know strange things happen – just like last year.
And as it turned out the leaders stayed where they were after having 13 points over their last 3 holes to finish with 74 points. – Susie had 36 points and Gavin 38 points.
There was a race on for second and this went to Joan Brown and Joe Alexander who finished fast with 15 points over their final 3 holes for a total of 71 points and 3 adrift of the winners.
Patricia Noske and Tim Tan moved up to third with 13 points over the last 3 holes and a total of 68 points,
The Caruso combination did not fare well over the concluding 3 holes and dropped back to 4th position with 68 points – Yolande had 39 of those.
Helen Walsh and Bevan Lawrence were next on 67 points and had 12 points over their last 3 holes.
There is not a great deal more one can say except congratulations to the Champions
