The 2023 “Official” Golfing Season comes to a close next week and it has been a very busy playing year for all members. So, with the closing of the season upon us here is a recap of the Mixed Events of the year and the Men’s Medallist of the year.

This weekend just gone saw the final mixed event on the calendar and the Medallist of the year decided.

MIXED AMERICAN FOURSOMES – Stroke – 50 players

The final Mixed event of the year took place on Sunday November the 5th and attracted 25 pairs playing a Mixed American Foursomes – stroke. This which was a change from last year where it was Stableford.

Jill and Tony Morgan continiued their support of the event and their sponsorship contributed to another successful day – thanks Jill and Tony.

In the absence of the defending champions, Chris and Stewart Wharton, a new combination took out the honours. Anne-Marie McNaughton and Steve Dumble proved the perfect pairing on the day and came in with a very good score of 69. They were closely followed by Patricia Noske and Steve Noske with 69.125.

MEDALIST OF THE YEAR

During the season there were 12 Monthly Medals conducted and on Saturday 4th of November nine of the winners played off for the Medallist of the Year.

The event was initiated by past President and Captain Darrell Arnett and Darrell once again generously sponsored the event.

95 players set out to win the Monthly Medal on a very hot Spring Day and become the first qualifier for the 2024 Medallist of the Year.

The winner of the Monthly Medal was Oliver Bisschops (20 H’Cap) with a score of 68. Oliver also won Medallist of the Year and became the first qualifier for next year.

Editor’s Note – Oliver will be on single figures come the 2024 Medallist of the Year.

MIXED EVENTS

For the third year a calendar of Mixed Events was established and as per the initial year there were 3 “Majors” and 3 other mixed events, all sponsored by club members.

Unfortunately, The Player’s Challenge was cancelled due to a lack of entrants – next year hopefully it will be back.

Anne- Marie won her second Mixed Event for the year and no doubt will be a well sought after partner in 2024.
