WOMEN’S PENNANTS – DIVISION 3 FINAL
Wanneroo played host to the Division 3 Final and the team was confident of a victory and elevation to Division 2.
Unfortunately, they fell just short going down 4/3.
Excellent wins to Rhonda Moore, Marg Doyle and Judith Drummond saw the scores locked at 3 all and with Ali Baker square in her match after regulation time the result rested on the shoulders of the 2020 club champion.
On the 19th hole – the par 5 10th hole at Wanneroo – Ali’s second shot kicked out of a bunker and ended up behind a tree. All all she could do was chip out. With her opponent on the green in regulation, Ali failed to get “up and down” and her opponent two putted to win the hole and the final.
Bad luck to the team and who knows you may get to play more than 2 qualifying games in 2023.
METROPOLITAN PENNANTS – MEN – ROUND THREE
The third round of the 2022 Men’s Pennant season was played on Sunday with mixed results for the two Nedlands Teams.
DIVISION TWO
After a disappointing loss in round 2, the team was looking to bounce back against the strongly fancied Rockingham team at The Vines. Things weren’t made easier with Ajay Dhadli and Callum White not available. They were replaced by two more than capable players in Tim Tan and David Rees.
Tim won his match at the final hole whilst David could not win the final hole in order to go to extra holes.
New recruit, Ben O’Callaghan, won his second match of the season and the captain, Ben Cullinan, won at the 18th after an outstanding “up and down” for birdie which halved the hole with his opponent.
Andrew Ogilvie and Aiden Cooper had disappointing days and Anthony Joseph went down 2/1.
It was an excellent effort against the highly fancied Rockingham team but in the end they just fell short – going down 4/3.

Next week the team travels to HARTFIELD to play THE VINES commencing at 12.20pm.
Roving reporter’s comment – Whist Nedlands will be after the win, interest will centre on the Mandurah vs Melville Glades match with both teams yet to win a game.
DIVISION FIVE
Going into the third round with a win and a half the team was looking to consolidate its position by having a strong win at home against Lake Karrinyup.
With David Rees elevated to the Division 2 team Usaf Qazi came into the team at number 7 and showed the selectors his worth with a convincing 4/3 win.
Rehan Alikhan proved he is human and suffered his first loss of the year. After his forced lay off Gus Elliott had a good win. A great par on the final hole (again) saw John Samuels win 1up and team captain Scott van Heurck justified his reinclusion with a tenacious 1up victory. Damon Watkins tried valiantly but in the end his opponent was too strong winning at the 17th hole. Dave Southam was, as one has come to expect, steady at the helm and ran out a comfortable 3/1 winner.
Final result – a 5-2 win. Well done and keep up the good work.

So, after the third round the team sits 1 point clear on top of the table. Next week they go to WA GOLF CLUB to play the home team, who sit in second position. This will be a good test to see if they can go “all the way in ’22”.
Next week’s game at WA Golf Club starts at 11.30am.
Roving reporter’s comment – Will the selection policy continue – “lose and you are out” Bad luck Rehan and Damon.
From Greg Fitzhardinge on behalf of the team captains.
