For those who are unaware, every year Albany Golf Club hosts a golf carnival lasting 10 days with a focus on mixed handicap events in a range of formats. This is known as the “Wittenoom Cup Carnival” and it includes a variety of different golfing formats (Irish Stableford, Foursomes and Ambrose) and cumulates in a 36 hole Stroke Event where one male and female golfer is crowned the winner of the Wittenoom Cup which dates back to 1927.
You may have noticed a few of the familiar faces around the club were absent this past week, this is most likely because they were down south taking part in the event! The Albany golf course is a links style course located close to the ocean and this provides a completely different style of golf than we experience here at Nedlands, because of this it is very popular for members to participate in this event.
This year we had close to a dozen Nedlands members representing the club and we had one very special effort by none other than our own Cath Bellemore, who played superb golf on the final weekend in the 36 hole stroke event. Cath produced a score of 144 Nett over the 2 days and this was enough to win the Brenda Wittenoom Open. A fantastic effort by Cath, well done and she has done the club proud.
