The Monthly Medal is a unique event at Nedlands which is held one Saturday every month in which the traditional Stroke format is played and the winners of the event are given a medallion to recognize their performance. These medals and the annual event is all made possible by the ongoing generous sponsorship of Angove Wines and long term member Darrell Arnett.

These monthly medal events cumulate in a final monthly medal termed the ‘Medallist of the Year’ where all the medal winners from the course of the year are grouped together and the player with the best score from these medal winners is crowned the Medallist of the Year.

On men’s competition days you will often see winners of these monthly medals adorning these on their caps or shirts with great pride, as it is a rare occurrence to win one of these medal events and they hold great value.

The monthly medal winners from this year are as follows:

Stroke play is one of golf’s traditional formats and its existence in golf competitions across Australia has diminished in comparison to more popular formats such as Stableford and Par. In order to keep this great tradition alive at Nedlands we urge all men’s members to consider playing in these monthly medal events held at the club. Stroke events can bring out the worst golf in all of us, but at the same time can bring out the best as evident by Craig Marshall’s stellar round of 63 last Saturday (or 45 Stableford points). It is also important to recognize that although you may have a terrible hole or two, in terms of handicapping you are still handicapped in Stableford, so high scores on a hole are negated by this fact.
