The O and S Allom Bowl is an event which dates back to 1970 and features a mixed foursomes stroke format. The golfing couple who record the lowest gross score are crowned the champions and have their names etched onto the trophy which is on display upstairs in our clubhouse.

This year the event was sponsored by Paul Jenkins and Mara Pritchard and their continued generous support of the event must be noted and is greatly appreciated. The field yesterday featured 20 different mixed golfing partnerships who battled it out for the trophy and prizes were also given for good nett scores.

If you were to gaze upon the Allom Bowl trophy you would notice two names which have been etched onto the silverware frequently and more than any other partnership to participate in the event. Prior to Sunday’s event the dynamic duo of Paul Baster and Cath Bellemore had won this trophy a record 9 times and they delivered another solid round of 82 strokes to bring the tally up to a record 10 victories in this event. Well done to Cath and Paul for this amazing feat and this record is likely to stand for a very long time to come.

Gavin Furness has also won this event on 3 separate occasions, but with his daughter Gracie absent, he partnered with Pam Ryan to lodge a great nett round of 70.5 which was enough to be the best nett score on the day. Before the start of play Gary Hing made the risky decision to not play with his wife Veni Tang, but this proved fruitful as he and member Tracy Chin combined successfully for a nett 71.5 which was the Runner up in the nett category. Well done to all these players.

Thanks again to Paul and Mara for their support of the event, this year the field size was decent but could definitely be improved and we encourage all members to participate in the Allom Bowl next year, one of the clubs 3 major mixed events. Partners of the opposite gender will be arranged by captains and the proshop if you wish to take part in this major club mixed event.
