The Dalkeith Cup was held on Sunday the 21st of October and like the Allom Bowl this event is one of two of the mixed majors in the Nedlands golfing calendar. The event dictates that mixed partnerships play a 2 person combined Stableford format game and the best combined Nett score on the day is considered the winner of the Dalkeith Cup. This year, the event was sponsored by golfing couple Tony Cowan and Krystyna Knottnerus and we thank them kindly for their generous sponsorship.

For those unaware, this years event represented the 52nd time this event has taken place and its history dates back all the way back to 1966 when it was first won by Mr T. Rodda and life member Mrs M. Glaskin. It was great to see such a strong field taking place on Sunday, with 48 players and 24 partnerships playing, thank you to all the members who supported this long standing club tradition of annual mixed events by participating on Sunday.

Despite less than ideal conditions on the day, especially on the front nine with heavy rains and winds, excellent golf still prevailed with Club VIce-Captain Joe Alexander producing a stunning round of 44 points which combined with previous winner Marg Doyle’s 31 point effort for an aggregate score of 75. This was the best nett score on the day and this made Joe Alexander and Marg Doyle the Dalkeith Cup Champions for 2018.

Testament to how the tough conditions were is the fact that out of the 24 mixed partnerships, only two aggregated to their handicap or above (72pts). Brady Morris (37) and Sue Kelly (35) played very well in the conditions to post a combined score of 72 and this was enough to be the runner ups for this year’s event. Congratulations to Brady Morris and Sue Kelly, our runner ups for the 2018 Dalkeith Cup.

Equally amazing as Joe Alexander’s 44 point round in those conditions was that long term member Jill Morgan recorded a hole in one on the 16th hole! Recording a 1 and 5 Stableford points on the scorecard for her efforts on that hole. Well done to Jill for this amazing feat! The pin was at the front and her playing partners said it was tracking the hole as soon as she hit it. A solid club choice.

Thanks again to our sponsors Tony Cowan and Krystyna Knottnerus and thanks again to all members who participated and supported this long standing club event and fought through the strong winds and rain to finish their rounds. Support of these annual club events is critical for the club and we encourage all members who did not play to consider playing in these annual events in the future. The Proshop and Mens/Ladies captain will assist in organising a playing partner if you do wish to participate in a future club mixed event.
