Popular member Craig Nelson has spent more time fishing than golfing recently, however two very good rounds of 34 and 37 points saw him claim the Autumn Cup on countback from junior Riley Gott in a bunched finish. Captain Gavin Furness and Tim Song set the first round lead with 38 points but neither could sustain it in round two.
Tony Cowan and Patrick Buller produced the best round two scores in the more difficult conditions with 38 points followed by Nelson, pictured below with sponsors Joe Alexander and Ron Parkin, with 37.
The Parker name is synonymous with major events at Nedlands and it was new member Angus Parker (no relation) who produced an outstanding first round to set up a comfortable win the Autumn Cup. Played in superb autumn conditions, the stroke format event suited low markers who filled nine of the top eleven places. Captain Gavin Furness was runner up followed by pennant players John Strachan, Jeremy Crabb, Bryan Wilsie, Tim Tan and Aidan Cooper.
Parker, formerly from Geraldton and now studying at UWA, complimented the course staff for producing top class conditions and thanked sponsors Joe Alexander & Ron Parkin and fellow members for their warm welcome to the Club.
Damon Watkins produced two spectacular rounds to claim successive Autumn Cups with fine rounds of 40 then 42 (82) in the new stableford format of the event. He finished eight clear of Aidan Cooper 34, 40 (74) and Bob King 38, 36 (74). Playing off 19, a seven shot improvement when victorious last year, Watkins showed capability of a much lower handicap and was a deserved winner.
Brian Millar 40, matched Watkins on Saturday whilst other good performers were Brian Stuart 37 again, David Fear 38 Sunday and Stewart Wharton 37.
The event was kindly sponsored by Joe Alexander & Ron Parkin.
New member Damon Watkins has taken out the 2015 Autumn Cup, sponsored by Joe Alexander & Ron Parkin, with a score of 6 up. He proved the more consistent with rounds of 3 up on both days of the event overtaking overnight leaders Ian MacDonald, Terry Green and Brian Stuart (hampered by celebrating his son’s engagement). Watkins recorded the same score as last year’s winner, thanked his playing partners and was looking forward to playing with other members in the coming months. 2015 Autumn Cup Results Sheet The 2014 Harriman Constructions Autumn Cup was played on the weekend in fine golfing conditions. This was reflected by the great scores that were posted. Rowan Krasnoff was the club house leader with +4 after round 1, while the Major sponsor, Gus Harriman, was hot on his heels with +3. Sunday was a day for our young guns. Grant MacDonald came in with a +4 and new member Nick Bloor had +3. Overnight leader Rowan Krasnoff had a respectable Square to back up his Saturdays round. But this was not good enough to beat the overall winner who was Grant MacDonald. Grant scored a fantastic score of +6 for the tournament, just beating Rowan who scored +4. Big thank you to Gus Harriman from Harriman Constructions for his continued support. Autumn Cup Results 2014 Full Scores
