Brian Stuart recorded a comfortable five shot victory in this year’s APC CG Dudley with a brilliant final round 66, playing off a 20 handicap he went better than his opening round 70 with seven pars including 3 of the 4 par 3s.
Grant Evans (over 55s winner), Brett Thomson and Angus Johnson were next best. Newcomer Kayne Wardell (72 76 148) took out the Pascoe Cup (medal winner) by a shot from Harry Traylen (77 72 149).

Round 1 leader Bernard Shaw did just enough in the final round to edge home in the Club’s most prestigious event, the CG Dudley. In his first attempt, Shaw broke 100 both rounds off his 25 handicap to record a two stroke win (66, 74 140 net). Predictably, the main challenge came from club champion and eventual Pascoe Cup (Medal – gross winner 72, 78 150) David Baster. A further stroke back were Mal Skipworth (September monthly medal winner 75, 68 143 net) and Andrew Frazer 74, 69 143. Other good finishes came from Geoff Robey (68) and Frank Watson (69).
Qualifiers for next week’s club championships are listed below.
Times for Club Championship matchplay
Bernard Shaw produced an outstanding first round 66 to hold a two shot lead over David Baster as play in the CG Dudley got underway. Shaw, a native South African joined the Club late last year, produced a 91 off the stick and will need to hold off challenges to claim the prestigious event.
Most likely they will come from Baster who fired a par round (net 68) in difficult conditions and a host of consistent players a further three (Neil Watson, Richard Lee, Brian Millar all 71) and four shots back (Chris Emmott, Reece Mckenzie and Greg Parker 72). Unfortunately defending champion Lou De Verteuil lost a ball and will be unable to contend this week.
In the Club Championships qualifying battle, a score of 80 will have you inside the top eight, which is basically the pennant team led by David Baster (72), Mark Miller (76) and Ben Cullinan (78). Those outside and looking to improve to secure a spot include Ross Nayler and Bryan Wilsie (81), Harry Traylen (82) and multiple past winner Kenneth Fairweather (84).
