25.12.29-30.03.25
Sadly, longstanding member and Past President Howard Lange passed away on Sunday – the 30th March at the age of 95. It has to be said that this gentle giant was a true gentleman and highly respected by all who knew him.
Howard joined the club in 1971 and along with his wife Bev became regular playing members of the club. He was an accomplished player with a handicap in the mid-teens. Howard’s last competition game was on the 17th of April 2010 where he had a respectable score in the 30’s.
Like many of us he always had problems with the 6th/15th hole and worked out after many years the way to play it was with 2 9 irons. That worked for a while until he got the “shanks”.
Howard was a Banker and was appointed Manager of the Bank of Adelaide after coming from South Australia – and he was very proud of his South Australian heritage, some might say “one eyed”.
Howard served on the committee and was President in 1992 and 1993.
He became involved with Blind Golf and in 1997 was on the Working Committee for the establishment of the International Blind Golf Association.
Howard was a Director of Cosmomate, a company headed by Japanese Business man and Philanthropist Dr Haruhisa Handa. The club’s commitment to blind golf led to the introduction of Handa to the Nedlands Masters. Howard always worked in the best interests of Dr Handa and the club – both for Blind Golf and The Nedlands Masters.
The Committee, Staff and Members extend their condolences to his wife Bev and their two children Jane and Judy and their families at this sad time.
Details of his Funeral will be advised at a later date.
