Under a clear blue sky today, the Nedlands’ boys started to dream of finishing top of their Division and playing in the finals.
But before that reality could be achieved, they had to overcome a strong Mandurah side that had a home course advantage.
Luke Bai continues to improve each week with an impressive 4/3 win, but it was not all smooth sailing for the rest of the boys.
Noah Keren was having issues with keeping his driver on the fairway, and at the turn into the back nine was 3 down. But his tenacity and never say die attitude got a well-deserved half.
Harry Alcock was also having some difficulties with finding the fairways and putting, and also turned 3 down going into the back nine. Thankfully he found better form and eventually got the game back on track to head to the 17th hole one up. Unfortunately, an errant drive resulted in a lost ball and loss of the hole. It was a tight tussle between both players going up the 18th hole, with Harry missing his par putt, but the Mandurah player made no mistake in sinking a 3-foot putt for par to win. We lost 1down.
Ollie Wright unfortunately got off to a bad start, and like Harry and Noah, he also turned 4 down on the turn into the back nine. He did manage to decrease the deficit to 2 down but lost the 16th hole resulting in a 3/2 loss.
Coming off a fine 48-point win on Saturday, Theo Grobler was hoping his win would stand him in good stead for a comfortable win. However, this was not to be, and the game seesawed back and forth over the front nine, and he found himself 1 down at the turn. Eventually his good approach work into the greens, and putting, reduced the deficit to be two up on the 16th hole. Once again, an errant drive proved costly, losing the hole. Now playing the 18th, both players hit their drives into the rough, Theo on the green for 3, his opponent for 4, after chipping into a greenside bunker. This proved too much for his opponent and Theo finished with a 2 up win.
A great achievement from all the team who remain undefeated.
Our final match will be against the West Australian Golf Club at Lake Karrinyup next Sunday.
Once again, the tremendous support from all parents, and grandparents has contributed to the team great performance to date.
