“So close”
This week the boys travelled to Lake Karrinyup Country Club to play in the Junior Pennant final. It was the first time the Club has been in the final in 12 years. They went with high hopes of bringing the Division 3 pennant flag back to Nedlands.
Our opponents, West Australian Golf Club, obviously had the same idea. Both teams had come through the season undefeated.
Luke Bai continued his fine form and went through the season undefeated, eventually overcoming his opponent on the 18th to win 1up.
Noah Keren started well and was at one stage 2 up, but unfortunately his opponent was in blistering form producing 4 birdies in his round, putting an end to any aspirations of a win for Noah resulting in a 4/3 loss.
Theo Grobler continued to impress and was 2 up after 6 holes, but unfortunately from after that things just didn’t go his way, eventually losing 5/4.
Harry Alcock was in fine form, getting an early lead and never let up the pressure on his opponent. He won 5/4.
It came down to the last pairing out on the course. With Ollie Wright’s at 1 down, playing the 18th hole. A par would have seen the game go to extra holes. This didn’t eventuate and he lost 1 down.
Golf as you all know is an individual game, but there is no better feeling than seeing the boys coming together as one to support Ollie on the last hole. We are so proud of them; they certainly exceeded our expectations.
Thanks to all those members and parents who came out to support the boys on the day and over the past month.
Finally, we would like to thank Srixon Golf and Darrell Arnett for their generous support and sponsorship of this year’s Junior Pennant team.
