It is with great sadness we advise members of the death of LIFE MEMBER and former Women’s President and Captain, Mavis Glaskin. Mavis passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday at the age of 97.
Condolences are extended to her four children Darrall, Gaye, Scott and Fiona and their families – in particular Ben Unbehaun, her grandson.
Mavis joined the club on the 1st January 1955 and retired from competitive golf in 2003. Her husband Bruce often joined her in Mixed Events and together they won the Allom Bowl (Mixed Foursome Championship) on 2 occasions.
She was Women’s Captain in 1980 and 1981, President in 1987 and 1988 and made a Life Member in 1988.
There is not much Silverware Mavis does not have her name on and here are some of her achievements-;
- Ladies Club Champion and winner of the Championship Trophy in Memory of Peg Dickie – 10 times between 1966 and 1977.
- Ila Parry Silver Plate – Runner up in Club Championships – 1982 and 1987
- Ladies Champion – Keenan Cup – 3 times. The Keenan Cup is now the Mavis Glaskin Perpetual Trophy awarded to the best nett 36 holes winner in the Club Championships.
- Winner Edith Watts Trophy – Gross winner in Club Championships – 6 times
- Pascoe Cup – Knockout Competition – 6 occasions
- Winner O and S Allom Bowl on two occasions with husband Bruce. – 1971 and 1973
- Dalkeith Cup – once with Trevor Rodda – 1966
- Member of inaugural winning Nedlands “B”Grade pennant team.in 1965
Mavis will be long remembered by all those who came in touch with her as a champion golfer and beautiful, kind lady passionate about her golf and Nedlands Golf Club.
