Practicing your golf is an important factor in both reducing your handicap and having more enjoyment of the game.

Although the Nedlands Golf Club has limited practice facilities every effort has been made to provide avenues for members to hone their skills without the inconvenience and cost of utilising external facilities such as driving ranges.

A general rule for golf practice is that members are only permitted to play 2 balls on any of the fairways, rough areas, bunkers and greens.  Repetitive practice is only permitted in the designated areas described below

The Do’s

  • Use the practice nets adjacent to the 8th tee for short/ medium irons and woods practice in the restricted netted cage area.
  • Use the practice area adjacent to the 5th fairway for your woods (tee area closest to Mevista Ave) middle irons (tee area adjacent to the 9th green) and short irons (tee adjacent to the corner) and hitting balls to the left of the shed and towards the large tuart tree in the cleared area. Please ensure the balls you are using are preferably yellow practice balls or clearly marked balls. The Club Professional and members playing the 5th hole have priority.
  • Use the chipping and practice bunkers in the area to the right of the 16th In the future we hope to renovate the cut greens and establish a bent grass green to double up as practice and a nursery.
  • Use the practice putting green by the 1st tee to practice putting and short chipping.
  • On the course you may use a maximum of 2 balls to play fairways, rough areas, bunkers and greens as part of a normal round of golf.

The Don’ts

  • Repetitive practice on any part of the course including all fairways, rough areas, bunkers and greens other than the designated practice areas mentioned above is prohibited.
  • It is not permitted to walk up and down fairways in any direction randomly hitting multiple balls – only 2 balls may be played as part of a normal round of golf from tee to green.
  • It is not permitted to hit multiple balls into greens nor short chipping or putting on the greens nor playing out of bunkers with multiple balls – only 2 balls may be played as part of a normal round of golf.

It is apparent that some members are either unaware or choose to ignore the normal rules of practice on any golf course. These rules are in place to reduce wear and damage so that all of us can enjoy a course in top condition.
