The history of the Allom Bowl dates back to 1970 when life members Mr and Mrs Allom donated the trophy that can be seen on display within our clubhouse. It is the only annual mixed foursomes event in the club’s calendar and because of this is it is highly regarded by many members, especially to the mixed golfing couples among our membership.
This year it was played on Sunday, the 30th of September in sunny conditions and our sponsors for the event were Paul Jenkins and Mara Pritchard. There was a good sized field with over 23 foursomes pairs competing to take out the trophy. The event dictates that pairs comprising of both male and female players must play the traditional golfing format – Foursomes which involves alternating shots until the ball is holed. Fitting in with the traditionality of the event, it is also played in a stroke format with the winner of the trophy being the foursomes pair with the lowest Gross score and prizes are also given to the best Nett scores on the day.
Leading into the event this year there was a certain golfing partnership that were hot favourites to take the trophy again – Paul Baster and Cath Bellemore who have combined brilliantly in the past to win this trophy a record 6 times and indeed have won this trophy consecutively the last 4 years, however the fairy tale was not to be and instead another repeat winning partnership lodged the lowest Gross score to take home the trophy:
Congratulations to Gavin and Gracie Furness who recorded a gross score of 85 to beat Paul Baster and Cath Bellemore by 4 shots. This win means they now have their name etched on the trophy 3 seperate times, with the previous wins occurring in 2009 and 2013.
A special thank you to Paul Jenkins and Mara Pritchard for their sponsorship of the event this year.
Please see the table below for the Nett component of the event which was won by Riley Gott and Lucy Gott (WAGC) with a nett score of 68.5, with couple Stewart and Chris Wharton not far behind as our runners up with a nett score of 71.5.
