A three shot margin was all defending champions Paul Baster & Cath Bellemore had to spare over Bryan Wilsie & Ali Baker as they notched another Allom Bowl to their trophy cabinet. Their 84 was more than last year but the same as the year prior as participants battled through a difficult day weather wise, let alone the format!
The nett was much closer as YC & Tracy Chin (73.5) won on countback from Bill & Vanessa Stephen with only half a shot back to Stewart & Chris Wharton.
Not even a triple bogey on the 18th was enough to derail the dominance of the Allom Bowl (mixed foursomes championship) by perennial winners Paul Baster & Cath Bellemore. A brilliant birdie on the 10th and a steady stream of pars was enough to claim an eighth title. Their 79 was three shots clear of likely challengers Gavin Furness & Claire Ryan.
Other good nett scores came from Gary Hing & Veni Tang 74, Bevan Lawrence & Helen Walsh 75.5 and Ian & Jenny McCallum 76.5.
The winner’s speech included a vote of thanks to the grounds staff and volunteers for preparing the course and clearing debris following wild storms.
Paul Baster and Cath Bellemore continued their domination of the Club’s mixed foursomes championship, notching up their seventh victory in the event. Their gross 84 was enough to prevail by just two shots over Jorge Botello & Nikki Bellemore-Thomas and Ali Baker & new member Bryan Wilsie.
