Leading qualifier David Baster defeated recent nemesis Kenneth Fairweather to claim his third club championship which was played played in superb conditions. His 4/3 men’s championship win allows him to join his mother, Cath Bellemore who is reigning ladies club champion.
Baster had an easier route to the final, taking out Ross Nayler (4/3) and Steve Noske (9/7) whilst Fairweather worked hard to defeat Gavin Parker (3/2) then Michael Duffy (2 up).
Other winners were John Strachan (minor champion), Colin Yoong (A Grade), Dale Harris (B Grade) and Peter Baker (C Grade).

In one of the more remarkable golf stories, Lou De Verteuil defied all to back up his opening round 70 with a stunning 71 to claim the CG Dudley, sponsored by APC. The 88 year old holed a bomb on the 17th green before holing out from off the back of the 18th green to be clubhouse leader on 141. He then had to sit and wait for the entire afternoon field to complete their rounds as the challengers were unable to match his score. Ray Badnall got closest with 72, 70 for 142. David Baster clinched his third successive Pascoe Cup (best gross) with two rounds of 75 from likely championship opponent Kenneth Fairweather 75, 77 152. Evergreen Louie De Verteuil has a chance to put himself in the history books, and the record books, of the Nedlands Golf Club. Lou is leading the APC C G Dudley on a countback at the halfway stage from Andrew Frazer, who just back from a holiday, demonstrated he could well be a threat to the man 38 years his senior.
In the gross competition it is refreshing to see many of pennant players in the top 8 at the half way mark. Fine rounds of 75 by David Baster and Kenneth Fairweather lead the qualifying for the Club Championship.

GOLFLINK/HANDICAPPING ADVICE REGARDING THE ANCHOR The “Anchor” is the lowest recorded “Exact” handicap in the 12 month period prior to your most recent game, so if you played a game on the 20/08/13 your Anchor would be the lowest “Exact” handicap between the dates of the 20/08/13 and the 20/08/12. Your Anchor recalculates after every game not every day, so even if you pass the Anchor date until you play a game to update the system your Anchor and handicap won’t update. When you pass the Anchor date and play your next game the system will calculate the new lowest “Exact” handicap in the 12 month period prior to your most recent game.
