Members may have noticed the Long Case Clock ticking (and chiming) in the entrance foyer of the Club.

Dr Graham Smith (NGC member) has spent many hours finding the clock parts (they have been missing for some years) and arranging the restoration etc of the clock.

History

NEDLANDS GOLF CLUB LONG CASE CLOCK (8 DAY)

Triple weight driven pendulum mechanism made by the Enfield Clock Company, London circa 1948. This type of clock was first produced in 1670 and became known as a ‘grandfather clock’ after the song that was written in 1876.

PROVENANCE

Donated to the NGC as a trophy by Bill Mears circa 1949. Montford (Monty) Davis Mears (1883 – 1955) handicap 8, came to WA from SA in 1939, he was Deputy Commissioner for Taxation. (Informant daughter Meredith)
